The BV-111 makes great use of its external ammunition supply module, which allows it to load high-powered shells when the need arises. The rest of the vehicle follows the familiar characteristics of Swedish tanks, such as hydropneumatic suspension, extreme armor angles, and a low profile.
In the early 1970s, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) researched the possibility of building a turreted tank combining a low profile, a traversable turret, a loading system based on Swedish developments, and the prospective 12 cm högtrycksstrvkan L/40 gun. The project was given the working title of Projekt BV-111; however, the tank looked too light compared to the pilot Leopard 2AV and development was postponed indefinitely. Sweden's subsequent purchase of the Leopard 2 (Strv 121/122) led to the project being closed conclusively.

External Ammunition Feed mode
This vehicle's External Ammunition Supply Module allows it to fire powerful high-charge unitary rounds that cause increased damage. While active, the module also reduces mobility and fire rate.
