2021 Vehicle Yearbook

The year 2021 saw several benchmarks for the game. The first Czechoslovakian Premium and Tech Tree heavy tanks debuted, as did the first Italian Tech Tree heavies. The elusive Type 59 (yes, that Type 59) was put on sale. Field Modification allowed players to precisely configure their favorite vehicles depending on their combat roles. Our partnership with Hasbro and G.I. JOE brought Cobra Commander and Duke into our vehicles (complete with unique voice-overs) and put fantastic 3D styles on the T-54 first prototype and TS-5. Sweden's Strv K became the first-ever Tier IX Premium (with all the bonuses that apply). Team Clash 2021 made Wargaming Austin personnel in-game Commanders. Battle Pass: Season 3 introduced progressive styles that change their appearance with new 2D and 3D elements as you complete certain Progression Stages. A new Safe Haven map was added to the game... Hardly an exhaustive list, these are just a few of the changes to the game this year.

2021 Rewind Timeline

January February March April August September November December
JANUARY 2021:
X Carro da Combattimento 45 t 01.11 The Carro da Combattimento 45 t made its debut in Global Map: Renaissance. A versatile support vehicle, the 45 t packs a four-round autoreloader with modified mechanics, solid armor, and good gun depression angles. Its main battlefield task is to provide fire support to other medium tanks from close and medium range, where its cannon can play a decisive role.
VII Carro d'assalto P.88   01.26 As Holiday Ops 2021 brought us the first Italian heavy tank (the Bisonte C45), Update 1.11.1 ushered the first four Tech Tree counterparts into the game. At Tier VII, the Carro d’assalto P.88 is a transitional step from medium to heavy tanks. Its gameplay is more like that of the mediums, but with better armor for close combat. A versatile and maneuverable tank that can attack and retreat quickly and make notable contributions on any map, it's also the only Italian Tech Tree heavy that doesn't have a modified autoreloader.
VIII Progetto CC55 mod. 54   The fastest and most mobile tank among the Italian heavies to date, the Progetto CC55 mod. 54 can change flanks quickly and easily—thanks to almost-immediate acceleration and excellent maneuverability. While it has better frontal armor and a powerful 105 mm cannon, the most interesting feature of this vehicle is the new and improved three-shell autoreloading system.
IX Progetto C50 mod. 66   A menacing gladiator with all the features of a mobile heavy tank, the Progetto C50 mod. 66's great dynamics, decent frontal armor, and powerful 120 mm gun with good elevation and depression angles transform it from a support vehicle into a self-reliant combat specialist. It also boasts impressive alpha damage thanks to its improved autoreloader.
X Rinoceronte   A charging rhino is a lethal wrecking ball. So is this heavy that bears the animal's moniker in Italian. Although it's a heavy, the Rinoceronte is highly mobile and can easily spearhead an attack on the flanks alongside medium tanks. Great turret armor with few vulnerable zones, enable it to lead the advance and exploit the map's terrain. The 127 mm cannon's three-round autoreloader deals an impressive 490 HP damage per shot (approximately 30% higher than that of medium tanks) with 268 mm armor penetration. Great gun depression and elevation angles help keep the vehicle's striking design, massive frame, and three-person crew safe from harm. Players can find the Rinoceronte's exclusive 3D style, "Fortuna," in Large Boxes during Holiday Ops 2022.
February 2021:
VIII 122 TM   02.12 The Lunar Challenge gave players the chance to earn the first new Tier VIII Premium of 2021: The Chinese 122 TM. Surprisingly well-armored for a medium, the vehicle's ideal role is long-range sharpshooting damage dealer. Its default penetration is 233 mm: If one of this tank's high-velocity shells makes it through enemy armor, however, it will bite off 400 HP. The gun depression reaches as low as –8º, which, considering the nation's standard of –5º, makes the 122 TM the first Chinese tank you can comfortably bring to hilly terrain. The Challenge also featured the vehicle's exclusive 3D style "Special Guest" as a reward.
March 2021:
X WZ-111 Qilin   03.05 The Salesman and his his Black Market offers made the rounds early in the year. Clad in gold-and-black armor with a dragon's mouth as the cannon's muzzle brake, the WZ-111 Qilin stopped patrons dead in their tracks. The Chinese Tier X Reward heavy tank packs a 130 mm cannon, is clad in strong armor, and is best described as the WZ-111 (and Alpine Tiger) on steroids. Lack of a "u" in the name leads to multiple typos.
VII Aufklärungspanzer Panther   03.06 In Update 9.9, the Aufklärungspanzer Panther was replaced with the Spähpanzer SP I.C. Although not a brand-new vehicle, the "Awful Panther" was re-introduced to the game via the Black Market.
IX Kunze Panzer   03.11 Battle Pass: Season IV introduced two new Reward Vehicles available for purchase with Tokens. Kunze Panzer, a German medium tank, features hydropneumatic suspension (think "Siege Mode" from Swedish tank destroyers) and great dynamics. The KP is perfect for performing the role of a fire support vehicle from the second line.
IX K-91-PT   The other Battle Pass: Season IV vehicle available for purchase with Tokens, the K-91-PT is also the first Reward Soviet Tier IX tank destroyer with a rear turret. The 122 mm cannon stands out for its high rate of fire, and the vehicle's excellent mobility allows it to catch up with medium tanks or stay around quick heavies as a formidable satellite.
VII Škoda T 45   03.17 Ranked Battles 2020–2021: Season 3 welcomed the first-ever Czechoslovakian heavy tank to the game. Available for Bonds in the in-game Store, the versatile Škoda T 45 Tier VII Premium features a fast-firing gun with great armor penetration and can easily eliminate any vehicle of the same Tier. Its well-sloped frontal armor and solid HP pool allow this brawler to perform brilliantly as a team's main assault tank and can become a game-changer in tough battle situations.
APRIL 2021:
V Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H Ankou   04.26 A slightly buffed Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H, the Ankou also features special 3D customization and is manned by a unique crew.
May 2021:
VIII Kampfpanzer 07 RH   05.21 Also called the "Frying Panzer" due to its circle-shaped turret and handle-like cannon, the German Kampfpanzer 07 RH Tier VIII Premium tank made its debut during the Crystal Challenge event. Although classified as a medium, it sits at the junction of medium and light vehicles. It boasts a great top speed of 65 km/h and incredible mobility, allowing it to reach crucial positions on the battlefield before other vehicles. It's also the first-ever German tank in the game with oscillating turret and it delivers some of the highest DPM among all Tier VIII vehicles. Players who completed 8 of the 10 Chapter II CC missions were awarded the vehicle's exclusive "Brunnenpanzer" 3D style.
AUGUST 2021:
VII Vz. 44-1   08.10 Update 1.14 added four Czechoslovakian heavy tanks to that nation's Tech Tree. The new branch kicks off after the Škoda T-25 with the Vz. 44-1, a Tier VII heavy. The tank easily performs the duties of a brawler, but its gameplay is more like a medium tank. It boasts good maneuverability and comfortable gun handling, as well as decent frontal armor. The Vz. 44-1 is a transitional step from medium to heavy tanks.
VIII TNH 105/1000   The TNH 105/1000 improves on the foundation of the Vz. 44-1 with a solid turret, additional armor, and a decent hull with well-sloped frontal armor. Starting from Tier VIII on this line, all Czechoslovakian heavies have a choice of two top guns: One fires in classic (cyclic) mode; the second features a two-shell autoloader. Both 105 mm guns are equal in battle performance, alpha damage, and depression/elevation angles.
IX TNH T Vz. 51   The TNH T Vz. 51 is a mighty, heavily armored brawler with an even more durable hull and a decent top speed of 50 km/h. You can also choose between two 122 mm top guns (one cyclic, one autoloading) with the same parameters.
X Vz. 55   The Vz. 55 is the end of the line. A formidable, versatile heavy tank with a low silhouette, incredibly solid turret with additional armor, and thick lower frontal plate. It has two 130 mm top guns (one firing in cyclic mode, the other a two-shell autoloader with a short reload time between shells) from which to choose. Possessing 490 HP alpha damage and good gun stabilization, the Vz. 55 can close in on enemies and come out on top in a duel thanks to its excellent armor and the firepower of both top guns. Its top speed won't impress, but it keeps up well and accelerates fast for a heavy tank.
VIII Škoda T 56   08.11 The Škoda T 56 came hot on the heels of the four Czechoslovakian Tech Tree heavies. The Tier VIII Premium heavy packs a 130 mm two-shell autoloader that can dish out 460 HP of damage. Although the tank's 650 hp engine can reach a top speed of 35 km/h, the remaining mobility aspects are a bit more in line with most other heavy tanks.
IV T-34 with L-11   08.12 During our August Heat event, we celebrated the game's 11th anniversary with a gift to players: T-34 with L-11. One of the first models of the legendary T-34, the L-11 version was re-created in-game after meticulous archival research and detective work. Complete with the 76 mm L-11 cannon circa 1938-39, this medium tank is a real find for virtual tank collectors.
IX Strv K   08.27 The first-ever Tier IX Premium (with all the bonuses that apply) was a milestone for the game. Who better make the announcement than award-winning metal band Sabaton? The Strv K is a well-rounded heavy tank with a sturdy turret and precise cannon with an excellent depression angle. The heavy tank also allows you to earn Bonds, which was previously a Tier X-only feature. Players who completed the Spirit of War event's first Chapter got the Strv K, and unique 100% trained Sabaton crew with "Band of Brothers" as a "zero" Perk. Completing 8 of 10 Chapter II challenges yielded the vehicle's exclusive "Spirit of War" 3D style—a real stunner.
SEPTEMBER 2021:
X 114 SP2   09.06 The ultimate reward for all three Ranked Battles 2021–2022 Seasons is the 114 SP2. The Chinese Tier X tank destroyer features a fully rotating turret mounted to the center of the hull and a 152 mm gun with good elevation angles (–7° / +20°), high accuracy, and short aiming time that allows players to effectively hit opponents from a long distance. The 114 SP2 can perform brilliantly as a menacing support vehicle or a dangerous long-range sniper.
VIII Charlemagne   Once players reached the Second Division in Ranked Battles 2021-2022, they could purchase the Charlemagne for Bonds. "Power and speed" sum-up the British Tier VIII Premium heavy tank, which is perfect for aggressive players. It has solid frontal armor and great dynamics, so it can both support fellow heavies and push the enemy line with allied medium tanks. Its well-stabilized 120 mm cannon has –10º of gun depression and is capped by a tough turret to take full advantage of terrain on any map.
VIII ASTRON Rex 105 mm   09.27 Max von Krieger stirred up more trouble in 2021 with his brand-new mechanical monster: The Blitzträger auf E 110 complete with teleportation ability. Turns out von Krieger also had an assistant named Ermelinda Jung, but we digress... The ASTRON Rex 105 mm was a reward during the Return of the Waffenträger event. The U.S. Tier VIII medium tank is perfect for hit-and-run tactics, as a sniper or passive scout: It has a fantastic hull traverse speed, a gun depression angle of –10º, and a five-round magazine that can potentially cause 1,600 HP damage on one clip.
NOVEMBER 2021:
VI VK 28.01 mit 10,5 cm L/28   11.25 In Update 9.18, the German VK 28.01 Tier VI Tech Tree light tank had its 10,5 cm Kw.K. L/28 cannon removed from the game. In 2021, players who were with World of Tanks for four years or more got the VK 28.01 mit 10.5 cm L/28—a Premium version of the VK 28.01 reunited with its potent gun—for free as part of the Well-Deserved Rewards. The days of delivering 350 HP alpha damage returned...along with the cannon's awful handling.
VIII AltProto AMX 30   11.26 Our marathon-style challenge, Legend of the Hunter, put a brand-new French medium tank up for grabs. The AltProto AMX 30 is equipped with a menacing regular (cyclic) gun that deals delivers the second-highest armor penetration value (232 mm) with a standard shell among all Tier VIII medium tanks in the game. Armor penetration with a special APCR shell is even higher (263 mm), which makes this tank a dangerous enemy for most well-armored vehicles. Players who completed enough Chapter II missions were awarded the vehicle's exclusive "Char de Chastel" 3D style.
DECEMBER 2021:
III Convert. Medium Tank T3   12.09 The Convert. Medium Tank T3 was free to players at the start of Holiday Ops 2022. A variant of the famous Christie tank, which was used in the development of the Soviet T-34 and other vehicles, the T3's a fast and maneuverable medium with a menacing gun that's perfect for low-Tier clashes.
VIII Bofors Tornvagn   Ranked Battles 2020-2021 gave players their first chance to earn the Concept 1B—a U.S. heavy tank with a very distinctve turret shape. The Swedish Bofors Tornvagn heavy has a smiliar-shaped topper and also likes to brawl. Forget about taking the BT head-on: It has 280 mm frontal armor and its 120 mm cannon delivers 400 HP alpha damage. Oh, its standard APCR shell penetrates 248 mm of armor, while the special APCR round penetrates 297 mm. The Bofors Tornvagn was found in Large Boxes during Holiday Ops 2022.
VIII Caliban   Holiday Ops 2021 Large Boxes brought the British GSOR 1008, with its four-round autoreloader, into the game. Holiday Ops 2022 Large Boxes could contain a similar toy: The U.K. Caliban Tier VIII heavy tank with a quick two-shell autoreloader and HE-based gameplay. The main feature of the large-caliber Caliban is its 152.4 mm gun, which deals 850 HP of damage with the standard HE shell and 600 HP with the special AP round. The reload time between shells is 3.75 seconds, so you can cause an astonishing 1,700 HE-damage in short order.
V KV-1 shielded   Holiday Ops 2021 Large Boxes added a Premium version of the KV-1 to the game with a shielded version. It packs a 75 mm cannon that can deliver 1,650 DPM.
VIII M-IV-Y   A September Developer Diary gave players a taste of U.S. machines with unique reserve-track mechanics: Yoh tanks. The video outlined five researchable vehicles and one Tier VIII Premium tank. Holiday Ops 2022 Large Boxes delivered the latter—the M-IV-Y. A well-armored tank with good mobility for a heavy, it's armed with a 105 mm cannon that deals 360 HP alpha damage. The reserve-track mechanic allows the M-IV-Y to continue moving (although with a speed penalty) even if both main tracks are destroyed.
IV Matilda LVT   Holiday Ops 2022 Large Boxes brought the Matilda LVT to the game. An Australian version of the British medium tank, the LVT packs a 75 mm cannon and can reach a top speed of 24 km/h.

In Holiday Ops 2022 Large Boxes, players could get a similar concoction: The M4-85, that features a U.S. M4A2 hull with a Soviet T-34 turret and 85 mm cannon.
II Pz.Kpfw. 35 R   A repurposed French Renault R35 with a Soviet T-26 turret. Players could find the light tank in Holiday Ops 2022 Large Boxes.
