Players' Guide to the TOG II*

HMS TOG II*: A Captain's Guide

It's heavy tank week and the classic TOG II* rumbles back to the Premium Shop for a limited time!

Does the TOG II* fit your profile, or should you save up for something different? Find out below!

 Summary | Loadout

Ever wanted to drive a battleship, but tend to get seasick? The TOG II* is the size of a small warship, but on land! While you won't blitz across the battlefield, you'll proceed at a dignified pace. It's affectionately known as the "Love Boat" or "HMS TOG" among its loyal fans.

A TOG is great fun and has been a long-time player favorite due to its profile and play style. Get some friends together and you can ride in a majestic TOG Platoon. If you do decide to pick one up, you'll need to have a firm grasp on this style of slow heavy tank play to get the most value for your money (as you might guess, there are speedier British light and medium tanks out there). The TOG II* is ideal for support play and base defense when well positioned.

The Good

  • Won't see above tier VII unless Platooned with a non-preferential tank
  • Gun has great depression and you can send a lot of shots downrange in a hurry
  • Unique look and play style
  • Earns Credits easily
  • Massive HP pool and weight; soak up ramming or shell damage with ease
  • A great Crew trainer for the British heavy line, though you'll need to add a few more members to run it

The Bad

  • Flat, thin armor -- won't bounce many hits
  • Big and slow with low top speed. A tempting target for artillery!
  • Best in a support role, not domination
  • Ammo rack might as well be made of pudding

The Ugly

  • Your frustration when trying to penetrate heavy armor from the front. Shoot out the tracks of your enemies instead, and leave them vulnerable for nearby teammates to destroy.

Reasons to Buy

  • You want to earn Credits; silver is your favorite color
  • You like the support style of gameplay
  • You want to drive a hilariously large tank

Reasons Not to Buy

  • You want a faster Premium heavy tank (in that case, check out the Excelsior)
  • You prefer to flank the enemy You prefer to flank (get a  Škoda T 40)
  • You want an actual aircraft carrier instead of a tank that looks like one (we hear World of Warships is pretty fun)

Fun with Friends!

Get two friends with TOG II* tanks and take them out for a TOG Platoon! (TOGtoon?) But don't forget to support your team!

Play Style

  • The TOG ambles along at a stately pace, so you'll need to commit to one direction early on in a battle and follow that plan through to the best of your ability.
  • As a heavy tank with thin armor, you'll need to trade HP for damage in nearly every exchange of fire with the enemy.
  • Make sure you have enough to come out on top by leaving the majority of your tank covered by buildings or terrain in order to reduce your exposure to enemy fire and any damage that results from it.
  • Even though you're slower than most tanks, try not to stop moving -- especially on open maps.

Loadout

Use/train a multifaceted Crew in Repair and Gunnery Skills, use equipment to enhance your gun, and practice good battlefield awareness. Also, your shells have good penetration with Premium APCR ammunition.

These are only suggestions! Feel free to see what works best for you.
Consumables
The standard loadout of Small First Aid Kit, Small Repair Kit and a Manual Fire Extinguisher is the economical way to go, while a Large Repair and First Aid Kits actually reduce the chance of damage or Crew injury from random artillery and HE Shells.
Equipment

Alternatively, Enhanced Gun Laying Drive can result in faster aiming speed.

Crew Skills and Perks

Boosting Repairs and gunnery skills are crucial in this tank, as are Sixth Sense and Safe Stowage. The first Skill alerts you when you've been spotted, and the second reduces the chance of debilitating ammo rack damage. Brothers in Arms will increase all your Crew Skills.

The amazing TOG II* is only in the Premium Shop for a limited time -- be the boat, and take it home today!
