First Human Spaceflight: How It Happened

Commanders!

60 years ago today, a three-stage launch vehicle took off from Baikonur Cosmodrome to carry Vostok 1 spaceship with Yuri Gagarin on board into Earth orbit. Throughout his 108-minute flight, Gagarin reached an altitude of 327 kilometers and completed a full revolution around the globe before successfully returning home.

We've prepared a detailed historical video that will cover the most crucial period in the life of the first cosmonaut—from qualifying for the role despite the harsh candidate selection and preflight to the successful landing and becoming a "citizen of the world."
