Lifting of the Blockade of Leningrad
Expected to be a quick campaign, the Siege of Leningrad commenced in the autumn of 1941. Although the siege took a terrible toll on the Leningrad population, the tenacious resistance of its inhabitants forced the siege to last much longer than anticipated. After 900 days of grueling conditions, the city was finally relieved by late January 1944 after a combined effort of the Soviet Union and her allies expelled the Wehrmacht from the city outskirts.
