The Second Battle of Alamein occured from October 21 to November 11, 1942, following the first Battle of El Alamein that July. The Axis powers had moved into Egypt once more in an attempt to control the Suez Canal. The 20-day battle ended in a decisive victory for the Allies, securing the Canal, and setting the course for the rest of the war. Per Winston Churchill, "It may almost be said, 'Before Alamein we never had a victory. After Alamein we never had a defeat.'"
