What Makes the IS-3A So Worth It

Best of Both Worlds

The IS-3A is a cross between the IS-6 and the IS-3. It can dish out tons of damage within seconds and have your enemies begging for mercy.

See if it's a good fit with this tank profile!

Summary | Loadout

Summary

The Good

  • Works well as an all-around heavy tank -- great combo of weaponry, armor and mobility
  • Can outperform the IS-6 and the IS-3 with its exceptional damage per minute and thick armor
  • Fast and mobile for a heavy tank

The Bad

  • Low accuracy
  • Higher risk of catching fire than other tier VIII heavy tanks

The Ugly

  • A smaller Crew makes you more vulnerable to Crew damage

Reasons to Buy

  • You like Soviet heavy tanks (IS-6 and KV-5).
  • Earns you buckets of Credits
  • Can train Crew members with multiple professions (See "Crew Skills & Perks")

Reasons Not to Buy

  • You don't want to battle against tier IX vehicles (go for the IS-6)
  • You don't want a small Crew, or want a Loader (better be the T34)

Crew Skills & Perks

The IS-3A doesn't have a Loader or Radio Operator, complicating the Crew Skill training process. However, the Commander or Gunner can fill the role of Loader in order to train important Skills like "Safe Stowage". If you plan on doing a lot of fighting in the IS-3A, consider training such a Soviet heavy tank specialist.
